Renew Your Mind

Hi people, Shile here reporting live from Covid-19 quarantine state day 8……….okay jokes aside it is officially day 8 since I have been home trying to adhere to the guidelines from the Maryland government about social distancing. Needless to say, these are interesting times indeed!

One of my mentees has all her events in the fall and I said to her “girl you are so lucky.” I, on the other hand, has been dealing with postponement plans and the effects it has on the clients. I have spent the last few days talking a lot with my event planner friends and other industry professionals and one thing that everyone is trying to do is take it a day at a time. One question on a lot of people’s minds is what to do now that you are home for the next couple of weeks.

You know your girl; I am all about resting in times like this, but I also really think one thing we should all do is see this time as an opportunity to “RENEW OUR MINDS.” One of the dictionary definitions for the word “renew” is to “replace something that is broken or worn out.” Another definition says, “give fresh life or strength to something.” These two definitions are what I want you to think about during this time of “social distancing.” What systems are broken or worn out in your business that needs replacing? What fresh life do you need to give to your business? What course do you need to take or is there a skill you want to learn to help you serve your clients better? This might be the perfect time to look into that.

On social media this week I will share a book from the “Good Reads” section of this site. I recommend this book as something you can read if you are looking to breathe “fresh life” into your business or if you are looking for a double shot of inspiration that will renew your mind at this time. For those interested in information about the book it is written by Preston Bailey and it is titled “Dear Preston - Doing Business with Our Hearts: A Practical and Friendly Guide to Running Your Own Creative Service Business.” You can listen to my opinion of this book on the “Good Reads” section of the site which is a free resource you can sign up for (I will be uploading other books as the year progresses).

So, my challenge to you this week is to find ways to replace a broken system and breathe fresh life into your business. Use this time of being quarantined (if you are in an area with restrictions) to improve yourself. If you are not in a country where social distancing is happening, I still encourage you to find a time every month or quarter where you “renew your mind” with the knowledge that can propel you and help you serve your clients better and grow as an entrepreneur.

Stay safe my people, and if you do read the book I recommended, I will love to know; you can share by tagging me @raemoments

Love Always.
